Associate Contentious Construction 3+ Years PQE Bristol or Exeter
Location: Bristol or Exeter
Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: £60,000 to £90,000 (depending on experience)
A highly regarded Construction team is seeking an experienced Associate (3+ PQE) to join its busy and expanding practice in either Bristol or Exeter. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high quality contentious construction matters across a broad range of sectors, acting for major national and international clients.
The Role
You will handle a varied and complex caseload of contentious construction and energy related disputes, including:
- Court litigation, adjudication, arbitration, mediation, and other forms of ADR
- Disputes involving payment issues, delays, defects, and professional negligence
- Advising on contract management and dispute avoidance strategies
- Working across a wide range of construction projects, including:
- Commercial development
- Utilities and renewable energy
- Residential schemes
- Operation, maintenance, and service contracts
- Facilities management
- Collaborating with colleagues across Construction, Real Estate, Corporate, Commercial, and Planning teams
- Working directly with clients from the outset and managing day to day conduct of disputes
- Receiving ongoing training and support from a specialist Senior Knowledge Lawyer
- Taking responsibility for high value, high quality work with significant client impact
Candidate Requirements
This role is suited to a construction disputes specialist with:
- 3+ years’ PQE in contentious construction
- Strong experience in adjudication and court litigation processes
- Excellent communication, technical, and organisational skills
- Ability to provide clear, commercial, and pragmatic advice under pressure
- Experience with JCT and NEC contracts (ideal)
- Exposure to a range of construction disputes, including adjudications, arbitrations, and expert determinations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle complex matters
- Proven ability to build strong client relationships
- Genuine interest in the construction and infrastructure sector
- Ambition, self motivation, and enthusiasm for professional development
