Ground Investigation Supervisor

Role objective:               
The GI Investigation Supervisor is part of the of team responsible for the ground investigation and is a member of the Ground Investigation Delivery workstream.
The Investigation Supervisor is to be an experienced ground practitioner with a wealth of ground investigation experience, sufficient to guide the technical direction and execution of a ground investigation of the size, nature and complexity of the project. 
The GI Investigation Supervisor is responsible for the technical direction and oversight of the ground investigation for the proposed Project GI scope that includes land, near-shore and over-water intrusive investigation, in-situ testing, geophysics surveys, sampling and laboratory testing.
The ground investigation technical specification and quality requirements are prepared/defined by the projects’ Ground Engineering (GE) Workstream. Detailed knowledge and working experience of the ICE Specification for Ground Investigation is essential to this role.
The GI Investigation Supervisor will be required to work in close collaboration with the Project Engineering Workstream, to ensure that necessary changes in the GI scope are adequately implemented in the field and the design integrity of the investigation is maintained to achieve the level of technical data recovery envisaged by the team during the GI scoping of the works.
The delivery of the GI will be driven by the aim of achieving the highest quality first, followed by timely delivery and then cost. 

Responsibilities              
·Providing accurate and timely technical input to the GI, including specification of borehole installations, selection of investigative techniques and review of GI data;
·Overseeing the implementation of the GI specification to achieve the highest quality GI output;
·Responsible for working alongside the Contractor's site supervision team (led by the Ground Investigation Supervisor Manager) to ensure that the technical objectives and quality of the investigation are met and highlight any shortfalls in the Contractors performance requiring improvement;
·Carry out quality audits of site investigation teams in relation to their management plans and specification requirements;
·To provide liaison with the Project Engineering Workstream to review and confirm design and assessment goals to be achieved;
·To respond in a timely manner to technical queries, review technical method statements and oversee production of site records;
·To hold health, safety and welfare (HSW) as a key project value.

 Skills, knowledge, previous experience:
·Ground Investigation professional with extensive experience of major ground investigation campaigns for linear infrastructure projects (ideally in an Investigation Supervisor role or similar);
·Sound understanding of the geology of the London Basin;
·Proven experience in supervision of:
·Land GI, (cable percussion, rotary, sonic boreholes, trial pits, window sampling, etc);
·In situ testing (SPT, CPT, pressurmeter testing, in-hole geophysics, cross-hole geophysics, etc);
·Groundwater and Geo-environmental/Contamination samplings, testing and monitoring (pumping tests, packer tests, soil, groundwater, leachate and gas sampling and monitoring, etc)
·Active and passive geophysics surveys (geo-electric, seismic, GPR, etc)
·core logging and sample selection;
·samples handling and storage;
·basic, advanced and specialist laboratory testing.
·Knowledgeable and experienced in the quality requirements set up in Eurocode and other relevant standards and best practice (e.g. CIRIA), including those from by Association of Geotechnical and Environmental Specialists (AGS), British Drilling Association (BDA), Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS), etc;
·Knowledge of geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering design processes and experience of applying appropriate materials, techniques and tests to inform design and assessment goals;
·Team oriented engineer with the ability to liaise closely with peers, with the ability to motivate and empower teams;
·Outstanding communication skills are vital to filling this role successfully;
·Registered Ground Engineering Professional under the ROGEP scheme (preferred);
·Chartered or nearly chartered Geologist or Civil Engineer;
·Hold at least one of the following H&S certifications:
·IOSH safe supervision of geotechnical sites (preferred);
·Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or equivalent;
·Must hold a valid CSCS Card
·Ideally would hold one of the following:
·Basic Sea Survival Certificate;
