General skills

As a Production Operative you will have:

  • Close inspection and strong attention to detail
  • Working in hot conditions
  • Good concentration skills
  • Manual dexterity and good using your hands
  • Basic computer skills (based on the increase of productivity and quality measurement through supply chain software applications)
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team (based on the type of machine they are on will depend on this)
  • Good problem solving
  • Methodical worker; ability to listen to instructions and carry them out step-by-step, in the right order
  • Reasonably good health as this role requires the individual to stand on their feet for most of a shift. It may also be necessary to move and lift heavy items safely

You will be/have:

  • Self-motivated and driven by targets (these may be by number of items assembled, or work completed per hour)
  • Flexibility and appetite to learn; it’s common to be moved around to learn different lines in the section of the factory
  • Reliable and punctual for every shift
  • Able to take a methodical approach and learn on the job
  • A positive person who can take initiative where appropriate
  • Leadership or team management skills are a bonus

Main Duties/Responsibilities

As a Production Operative you will: 

  • Use machinery, as well as working with hand tools
  • Meet personal as well as group/team performance objectives
  • Responsible for loading raw goods or materials onto the line, checking various checkpoints such as operating temperatures, overseeing the packaging of items, or conducting quality checks on products
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment at all times
  • Report any problems with the machinery or packing to your supervisor

 
Qualifications/Licences/Certifications/Experience

  • No specific qualifications or education subjects are required to do this role

Desirable:

  • A good level (GCSE or equivalent) of Maths and English would be useful
  • Any experience of working in a factory or warehouse and/or stacking shelves and organising stock in a retail role will also have given lots of skills that are relevant to an Production Operative role
