Trainee Forensic Medical Examiner

Trainee Forensic Medical Examiner (TaineFME) Merseyside, England

Salary: GBP45 - GBP45 per hour

A rare opportunity is being extended to suitable doctors to train as a Forensic Medical Examiner and work for CRG Medical Services. Throughout the course, free training will be provided by experts in the field. The course duration will consist of 4 separate days delivering 4 modules. Courses will be provided in Liverpool and Birmingham commencing August and October. 
 
All trainees will be trained in an approved setting and be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor who will be a subject knowledge expert with explicit training in effective supervision responsible for supervising the trainee and establishing when the doctor is safe to practice independently.
 
The named educational/clinical supervisor will perform an initial assessment of the individual doctor’s training needs so that appropriate training and continued maintenance of competence can be achieved;
 
Prior to commencing a post in one of CRG Medical Services’ 12 Police Custody Regions, all applicants for training will also have shadowed an experienced forensic physician (FFLM approved supervisor) and be provided with Immediate Life Support training (ILS).
 
AIM
To provide an effective forensic healthcare service to custody suites within CRG Medical Services.
 
WHERE WILL I BE WORKING?
CRG Medical Services are contracted to provide services to 12 Police Forces, you will be covering the custodies (police stations with detention cells) as well as attending hospitals and scenes of sudden deaths within you chosen area. 
Shift patterns are 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts (7am to 7pm : 7pm to 7am). 
 
WHO EMPLOYS ME?
You will be classified as a self-employed contractor in CRG. This means that you can choose when and where you wish to work (if available). This flexibility suits many doctors.
 
WHO ARE YOU WORKING WITH?
You will be working with custody sergeants, police officers, dedicated detention officers, interpreters, liaising with solicitors and supporting our Healthcare Practitioners (HCP) who also work with Custody. You may be requested to review detainees with complex medical problems, prescribe medication or provide an opinion in support of the HCP. It is therefore essential that you have good communication and multidisciplinary team working skills.
 
The following are our current entry requirements:
•             Clean driving licence
•             No previous bankruptcy or criminal record
•             GMC licence/revalidated
•             3 years training in a relevant speciality eg, general practice,  emergency medicine, psychiatry 
•             Medical Defence Organisation indemnity
•             You will require your own vehicle and mobile phone, as you will be providing cover to several police stations in a Force area.
 
On completion of the course you will be offered a post with a choice of full time, part time or sessional opportunities. CRG Medical Services can provide flexible working arrangements nationally.
