About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Apprentice Bricklayer to join a construction team and develop the practical skills and technical knowledge required to become a qualified bricklayer.

You will work alongside experienced bricklayers on live construction projects while completing structured college-based training. The apprenticeship combines practical, on-site experience with classroom learning, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills and build a long-term career in the construction industry.

Important: This apprenticeship is only open to residents of the London Borough of Camden.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Assist qualified bricklayers with day-to-day masonry and construction activities.

  • Learn and develop brick and block laying techniques under supervision.

  • Mix, carry and apply mortar safely.

  • Lay bricks, blocks and other masonry materials as your skills develop.

  • Learn to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Use levels, plumb lines, chalk lines and measuring equipment to ensure accurate work.

  • Cut and shape bricks and masonry materials using appropriate hand and power tools.

  • Assist with repointing, restoration and finishing work.

  • Clean and finish mortar joints to the required standard.

  • Assist with setting up and maintaining safe working areas.

  • Work safely on scaffolding once appropriately trained.

  • Keep tools, materials and work areas clean, organised and safe.

  • Attend toolbox talks, site inductions and training sessions.

  • Follow site rules, health and safety procedures and instructions from supervisors.

  • Work as part of a team while progressively taking on greater responsibility.

Apprenticeship Training

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop skills in:

  • Brick and block laying techniques.

  • Different brickwork bonds and patterns.

  • Decorative brickwork.

  • Repointing and restoration.

  • Reading construction drawings.

  • Building regulations and relevant construction standards.

  • Safe use of tools and equipment.

  • Material selection and estimating.
