Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the construction project and the local community, including residents, businesses, and other relevant parties.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, addressing their concerns, inquiries, and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to keep stakeholders informed about the progress of the project, potential disruptions, and any changes that may impact the community.
- Organise and conduct regular community meetings, open houses, and other events to engage with stakeholders, gather feedback, and provide updates on the construction scheme.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure compliance with local regulations, permits, and any specific requirements related to public outreach.
- Work closely with local authorities, community groups, and relevant organisations to identify opportunities for collaboration, support local initiatives, and mitigate potential conflicts.
- Monitor and assess the impact of the construction project on the community, proactively identifying and implementing measures to minimise disruption and inconvenience.
- Prepare regular reports documenting community feedback, concerns, and progress to project stakeholders and management.
- Stay up-to-date with local regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends related to public liaison in the construction sector.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, urban planning, or a related field. Relevant work experience will also be considered.
- Proven experience in a public relations, community engagement, or public liaison role, preferably within the construction industry.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask, prioritise responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of local regulations, planning processes, and community dynamics in the Newcastle area.
- Familiarity with construction terminology and processes is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
- A proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented mindset with a genuine commitment to community engagement.
