Specialty Doctor - Mental Health, Ty Gwyn Hall (SpecD-TGH-270819) Abergavenny, Wales

Salary: Negotiable, plus benefits

As an experienced Specialty Doctor you will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team, including the Consultant, to deliver a high-quality clinical service, and will be expected to work across all wards and land with both male and female patients in this Mental Health service.

 

 There is a regular programme of supervision with highly experienced consultants, and support is provided for external CPD activities like courses and conferences.

 

Hours per week:               37.5 (On-call cover provided when consultant is on leave)

 

The Specialty Doctor role involves:

 

  • Delivering a high quality clinical service to patients.
  • Working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, including the Consultant, to ensure that patients receive a holistic and person-centric treatment programme based on the recovery model.
  • Undertaking psychiatric and external assessments of clients referred to the unit to determine the appropriate level of care to be provided, under the direction and supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, and work with the unit multi-disciplinary team to ensure delivery of the Care Programme.
  • Preparing discharge summaries, reports and other associated documentation as necessary e.g. for CTP/CPA meetings, as directed and supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Participating in learning activities and supervision.
  • Participating in Clinical Governance activities, and account for contracted hours utilised in research, Continuing Professional Development and other non-clinical duties as necessary and in a timely manner.
  • Working effectively with colleagues to ensure that clients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times, which will require participation in an on-call rota for the site.
  • Supporting the GP in delivering physical health care and emergency treatment to patients in complex care.
  • Supporting the Practice Nurse and GP in delivering a consistently high standard of physical healthcare to all patients on site.
  • Sharing responsibility for taking bloods with the Practice Nurse as required.
  • Arranging appropriate clinical tests and investigations and taking responsibility for chasing up results and acting on them in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring physical observations by ward staff are carried out in accordance with medical instructions. Reviewing physical observation findings and acting upon them in a clinically appropriate manner.
  • Any other duties considered to be commensurate with the level of the post.

 

 

To be successful as a Specialty Doctor, you'll need:

 

  • Experience working in mental health
  • Appropriate experience of working rehabilitation services
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • Appraisal or RITA in last year
  • Good standing with The Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD

 

 

Where you will be working

 

Ty Gwyn Hall is an Open Rehabilitation services and provides a robust care pathway for adults with complex mental health conditions. The Hospital has three units:

Skirrid View – 15 bed female service that includes a 3 bed annex which is able to provide enhanced levels of care.

Ty Gwyn Hall – 17 bed male service.

Pentwyn House – 4 bed step down unit.

Tydfil House – 4 bed residential Home (located off the hospital site).

 

There is a low staff turnover, minimal use of agency staff and excellent patient outcomes.

 

The Hospital is located in Abergavenny, South Wales and is within easy reach of the M4, M5 and national rail networks.

 

Referrals come from across the country, where the experienced multi-disciplinary team has an excellent record in delivering positive outcomes to service users with a wide range of mental health diagnosis.
