Mechanical Fitter

Stafford – travel required

30k-50k (plus overtime)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications for the installation of substation infrastructure.
• Assemble, fit, align, and bolt mechanical components such as support structures, busbars, earth bars, and associated steelwork.
• Conduct installation and maintenance of mechanical plant and support systems (e.g., HVAC, earthing systems).
• Work under the direction of a Site Supervisor, escalating issues where necessary.
• Mark up drawings with "as-installed" status.
• Complete and sign onto RAMS and daily Point of Work Risk Assessments (PoWRAs).
• Comply with all National Grid SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) procedures and site access rules.
• Participate in daily briefings and toolbox talks.

Requirements

• National Grid Persons qualifications (mandatory).
• Manual Handling, Working at Height, and Abrasive Wheels (where applicable).
• First Aid (1day).
• CSCS card.
• Experience with torque wrenches, hand tools, grinders, hydraulic jacks.
• Experience using MEWPs, telehandlers (with CPCS/NPORS tickets as required).
• Experience with lifting gear, winches, and hoists.
