Fantastic opportunity for a senior Construction Lawyer to join a highly respected Legal 500 practice with ambitious plans for growth.
This nationally recognised team is known for its depth of expertise across both contentious and non contentious construction work. The group advises an impressive mix of public and private sector clients, including local authorities, NHS Trusts, education providers, funders, developers, contractors, subcontractors and consultants. With lawyers from leading city, national and regional firms, the team offers a collaborative, supportive environment with genuine strength in depth.
The Role
- Lead and grow the construction offering in the firm’s new Bristol office
- Manage a broad caseload spanning both contentious and non contentious construction matters (specialists in one area will also be considered)
- Advise on major standard form contracts including JCT, NEC, ICE, GC/Works, ACE, RIBA and RICS
- Draft and negotiate bespoke construction agreements
- Act for borrowers and lenders on the construction aspects of real estate finance transactions
- Handle a wide range of disputes including litigation, arbitration, adjudication and ADR
- Provide project support to other departments such as real estate and corporate
- Contribute to business development
- Play a key role in mentoring, team development and shaping the long term strategy for the Bristol office
Candidate Requirements
- 10+ years’ PQE gained at a strong regional, national or City firm
- A blended contentious and non contentious background is ideal, though specialists in either area will be considered
- Strong technical knowledge of construction law and standard form contracts (particularly JCT and NEC)
- Experience advising across sectors such as energy (including renewables and nuclear), infrastructure, regeneration, social housing, education, healthcare, housebuilding and the wider supply chain
- Proven ability to generate work, build client relationships and grow a practice
- Entrepreneurial, ambitious and confident in leading your own matters and developing a team
- Excellent drafting, communication and research skills, with a pragmatic, commercial approach
- Ability to deliver clear, timely and practical advice on complex construction issues
- Ideally able to bring an existing client base or strong network to support growth in Bristol
