Compliance Manager – Bristol

We are instructed by a highly regarded forward thinking Bristol law firm who are seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to become a key part of their Management team.

In this role, you will provide essential support to the Compliance team, Head of Department, and Board, advising on strategic regulatory and compliance matters. You’ll help monitor compliance trends, manage risks, and ensure the firm meets its obligations under SRA, Lexcel, and other regulatory frameworks.

The Compliance team handle daily queries on topics such as anti-money laundering, data protection, conflicts, and regulatory standards. The team is highly regarded within the firm, vital to mitigating risks, and the successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

You will assist the Head of Compliance with tasks such as:

  • Keeping up-to-date with relevant regulations and internal policies.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.
  • Overseeing the timely completion of file audits as per firm procedures.
  • Maintaining compliance with the Lexcel standard.
  • Monitoring complaints and providing input on responses as needed.
  • Assisting the COLP with SRA complaint data submissions.
  • Supporting the COLP in managing negligence claims and liaising with insurers.
  • Providing training and cover for new starters as needed.
  • Preparing data for quarterly risk assessments.
  • Drafting and revising firm-wide policies and procedures.
  • Offering HR support to the Compliance team when necessary.
  • Responding to staff queries on money laundering and source of funds/wealth to include monitoring high-risk cases and reporting suspicious activities to the NCA.
  • Staying informed about changes in data protection laws and providing relevant training.
  • Recording and analysing internal data breaches to include reporting breaches to the ICO and SRA.
  • Identifying and reporting breaches of SRA Accounts Rules.


The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor or FCILEx with a minimum of three years of experience in a regulated environment within a compliance function. You should have prior experience managing your own caseload and clients.
