Commercial Technology (Data Protection) Associate – Bristol

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Protection lawyer to join a growing Commercial Technology team within a leading UK law firm.

Working with innovative technology businesses, high-growth companies and established commercial organisations, you'll advise on a broad range of UK and international data protection matters. This is a chance to build your expertise in a specialist, fast-evolving area of law while working on high-quality, commercially focused matters.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on UK GDPR, data protection and privacy compliance
  • Drafting and negotiating data processing and data sharing agreements
  • Supporting clients with data breaches and incident response
  • Carrying out DPIAs, compliance audits and risk assessments
  • Advising on international data transfers and cross-border projects
  • Developing privacy policies and governance frameworks
  • Delivering practical training and guidance to clients
  • Building strong client relationships and supporting business development initiatives


Candidate Requirements

  • Around 3-5 years' PQE, although all applications will be considered on merit
  • Experience advising on data protection and privacy matters
  • Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical skills
  • An interest in technology, innovation and digital businesses
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Professional privacy qualifications such as CIPP/E would be advantageous but are not essential.
