Salary: AUD35 - AUD45 per hour
  • 5 days per week 8.00am-4.00pm - including weekends
  • Weekend penalty rates apply

The purpose of the Microbiologist is to provide guidance to the site in all areas of microbiology and hygiene. You will be the Microbiological site expert across all areas from testing to driving sanitation improvements and GMP. The key requirement is the ability to work, influence and support with the manufacturing teams to not just measure the micro results but to drive change and improvement through education and engagement

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following key standards:

  • Complete microbiological analysis across the site and product as per HACCP/Quality requirements.
  • Good understanding of environmental monitoring programs
  • Provide microbiological performance reporting to quality and to the broader production teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Educate and inform the team on best practice micro control including sanitation and cleaning.
  • Work alongside the manufacturing team and the sanitation chemical provider to improve cleaning results, cost, effectiveness, and efficiencies.
  • Ensure GMP practices are implemented successfully, conducting regular inspections in accordance with the GMP audit document.
  • Ensure all compliance requirements are met.
  • Develop and validate microbial testing methods to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to microbiological testing and hygiene practices.
  • Investigate and address any incidents of contamination or non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and research and development, to address microbial-related challenges
  • All activities are reviewed for safety to self, staff, and others.
  • All hazards are identified, and appropriate management strategies recommended.
  • All accidents and incidents are reported on appropriate forms and issues for resolution and management articulated

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A quality mindset with a quality first mentality
  • Previous beverage Microbiology experience
  • Relevant tertiary degree (Bachelor’s degree in science (Microbiology preferred)
  • Knowledge of food safety programs (HACCP)
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC, GLP and hygiene principles in manufacturing
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support and influence stakeholders
  • Problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Ability to work effectively within or lead cross- functional teams and adapt to a dynamic production environment
  • A can-do attitude willingness to learn and share best practice methodology
  • Knowledge of SAP - QM module
  • Knowledge of AIB standard
  • Sanitation experience.
  • History of effective training and upskilling of teams
