Grant Writer / Grant Manager (Part-Time, Remote)

Schedule: Part-Time, 15-20 hours/week

Position Overview

The Grant Writer/Grant Manager is responsible for driving the organization’s grant strategy, fundraising pipeline, and revenue development through effective grant writing, grant management, compliance oversight, and funder stewardship. This role plays a critical part in building organizational capacity and securing foundation grants, corporate grants, government grants, federal funding, state contracts, and philanthropic investments.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with advanced skills in proposal writing, research, budgeting, program evaluation, data collection, and impact storytelling. This role collaborates closely with program, finance, and leadership teams to align funding opportunities with organizational priorities and growth goals.


Core Responsibilities

Grant Research & Prospect Identification

  • Conduct comprehensive grant research, identifying opportunities across foundations, corporations, government agencies, community development funders, and economic development sources.
  • Build and maintain a robust prospect pipeline aligned with strategic priorities and funding needs.
  • Track trends in grant funding, nonprofit fundraising, community development, land trust development, and economic justice.
  • Utilize grant databases and prospect research tools to evaluate alignment and funding capacity.

Grant Writing & Proposal Development

  • Write high-quality grant proposals, LOIs, concept papers, narratives, needs assessments, and organizational overviews.
  • Ensure all proposals adhere to funder guidelines, program requirements, performance metrics, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with finance staff to develop detailed grant budgets, budget narratives, financial justifications, and cost allocations.
  • Submit grant applications totaling at least $750,000 per month in requested funds.
  • Tailor writing for foundation funders, corporate CSR programs, government RFPs, and community investment initiatives.

Grant Administration, Compliance & Reporting

  • Manage the full grant lifecycle, including post-award compliance, deliverables, and documentation.
  • Oversee grant agreements, reporting requirements, deadlines, outputs, and outcomes tracking.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure all spending aligns with grant budgets, restricted funds, and financial accountability requirements.
  • Collect program data, evaluation metrics, performance indicators, and impact stories for interim and final reports.
  • Maintain accurate tracking in grant management systems, CRM databases, and internal grant calendars.

Funder Relations & Donor Stewardship

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with foundation program officers, corporate partners, government funders, and philanthropic leaders.
  • Represent the organization at funder meetings, virtual or in-person site visits, community events, and briefings.
  • Implement stewardship strategies to strengthen long-term funding partnerships and enhance renewal and multi-year grant opportunities.

Organizational Strategy & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with program teams to gather data, outcomes, evaluations, logic models, and impact metrics for proposals and reports.
  • Support organization-wide development strategy, fundraising plans, grant forecasting, and revenue diversification efforts.
  • Contribute to long-term sustainability through funding alignment, strategic planning, and program expansion support.
