Electrical Engineer –  | Port Glasgow | £45,000 - £50,000 + Bonus

MRD Recruitment is delighted to be working with a leading global manufacturing business to recruit an Electrical Engineer. This is a permanent, site-based role located in Port Glasgow, reporting into the Site Engineering Lead.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and innovative organisation that offers excellent training and development. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving electrical systems across a complex, fast-paced manufacturing site.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and fault-find on a wide range of electrical plant and equipment including lighting, fire detection, HVAC, UPS, and power systems
  • Ensure site-wide compliance with electrical safety standards and regulations (IET Wiring Regs, HSE guidance, etc.)
  • Work with internal teams and contractors to manage installation, maintenance, and repair projects
  • Support and maintain reliability of PLC and automation systems (vendor-managed)
  • Act as or train towards becoming the site’s High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP)
  • Manage and issue permits to work, ensuring all activities are properly controlled and documented
  • Interpret and update electrical drawings and schematics as required
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning for automation systems

 

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  • Understanding of electrical distribution systems and building services equipment
  • Experience or willingness to train as a High Voltage Authorised Person
  • Knowledge of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams and external contractors

 

Desirable (but not essential):

  • C&G 6037 HV Systems Operations
  • Experience in project management
  • Familiarity with Permit to Work systems
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
