Salary: GBP32000 - GBP35000 per annum + Graduate Development scheme

The Role:

The key aims of the role are to:

  • Provide support to the Doris Technical Safety team with safety design engineering and safety studies in Renewables and Oil & Gas projects and/or Safety & Reliability consultancy scopes of work
  • Provide support to our Assessment Management group, e.g. safety cases support, safety studies

Scope of Responsibilities:

With supervision from line manager, lead engineer or mentor:

  • Perform and document safety/reliability studies & analyses in support of Renewables and Oil & Gas projects and/or Safety & Reliability consultancy scopes of work, e.g. Fire & Explosion Assessments, Quantitative Risk Assessments
  • Prepare design & engineering documents, drawings, layouts and technical specifications e.g. fire & gas detection layouts, fire protection philosophy etc.
  • Assist with production and/or update of Safety Cases, Design Notifications etc.
  • Attend and later scribe at workshops, e.g. HAZID, HAZOPs, LOPA.
  • Develop own core Technical Safety Engineering competencies and work towards Chartership
  • Provide assistance to Technical Safety & Environmental Manager as/when required with proposals, business development, methods and procedures etc.

Competencies & Soft Skills:

Essential

  • Ability to follow standard methodologies to produce designs, studies and analyses with supervision
  • Good written and verbal communication with a good standard of technical writing
  • Able to present cohesive arguments with attention to detail
  • Multi-tasking with ability to self-manage workloads to meet agreed timescales for delivery
  • Awareness of applicable developing safety engineering technology and assessment techniques/methodologies
  • Strong IT literacy

 Desirable

  • Some proficiency with one or more safety/reliability related software packages, e.g. Phast, Flaresim, Pipenet, MAROS, BowtieXP

Qualifications:

Essential: Bachelor or Masters degree in relevant engineering or science subject, e.g. chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics.

Desirable: post-graduate studies in one or more of Process Safety, Loss Prevention, Risk Management, Safety Engineering
