Patient Accounts Officer

Salary: $70K + 13% super + salary packaging + 17.5% annual leave loading
Location: Malvern

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Patient Accounts Officer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end billing, receipting, and collections processes across patient accounts. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate billing in line with private health fund contracts, timely cash flow, and a high standard of service to patients, health funds, and internal stakeholders.

This role is strictly suited to candidates with proven experience in the private health sector or those who have worked directly with private health funds. Experience outside of private healthcare billing will not be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Independently manage all aspects of patient billing and debtor functions within Patient Accounts

• Accurately raise patient accounts in accordance with private health fund contracts and internal billing policies

• Action daily health fund rejection reports and manage correspondence to resolve billing issues

• Follow up unpaid accounts with health funds and third-party providers, supplying additional documentation as required

• Receipt payments from health funds and other sources and reconcile against banking statements

• Actively contribute to team KPIs and cash flow targets, monitoring personal performance daily, weekly, and monthly

• Deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service to internal and external stakeholders, including patients and health funds

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Demonstrated experience working within the private health sector or directly with private health funds

• Proven ability to independently process, reconcile, and follow up private patient, health fund, and third-party accounts

• Advanced understanding of private hospital funding agreements, billing structures, and contract interpretation

• Experience resolving complex funding and billing cases with private health funds

• Experience using patient management and billing systems

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
