Working closely with the Operations Manager, you’ll take ownership of maintaining and optimising ground‑mount solar farms — ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and at peak performance. Your days will be varied: from electrical testing and fault‑finding to mentoring teammates and managing subcontractors on site. This is a role for someone who enjoys responsibility, values precision, and takes pride in delivering high‑quality work.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Solar array installation — installing cabling and modules across ground‑mount systems.
  • Cable termination — completing DC and AC terminations at distribution boxes.
  • Monitoring system setup — installing cabling for data loggers, routers, sensors, and comms equipment.
  • Fault identification — diagnosing electrical, comms, and monitoring issues using industry‑standard testing equipment.
  • Annual testing routines — including string testing, DC main cable testing, IV curve testing, and thermal imaging.
  • AC inspection — testing and inspecting newly installed AC equipment to BS7671 standards.
  • Reporting & documentation — compiling reports and updating ticketing systems.
  • Subcontractor management — overseeing onsite contractors and ensuring safe, compliant work.
  • Small works support — assisting Asset and Operations Managers with quotations.
  • Team collaboration — working alongside electricians, labourers, and site managers.
  • Health & Safety routines — completing H&S actions as required.
  • Training & mentoring — supporting the development of junior team members.
  • On‑call support — participating in the weekend rota.

 

Skills & Experience You’ll Bring

  • Strong working knowledge of photovoltaic systems; HV experience highly desirable.
  • Confident using AC/DC electrical test equipment, including MC4 crimpers and PV‑specific tooling.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, tablets/phones, and digital reporting systems.
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in Solar PV installation or maintenance.
  • Level 3 Technical Certificate in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
  • NVQ Level 3 in the electrical industry.
  • NET AM2 certificate.
  • Level 3 BS7671:2018 (18th Edition).
  • 2391 Test & Inspection (desirable).
  • ECS Electrician Card (desirable).
  • AP/SAP, SMSTS, or HV/AP experience (desirable).
