The EIA Consultant will be working closely with DORIS’s Renewables team and the technical departments across the Renewables Division.

 

The Role

The purpose of this role is to support business projects across our UK operations to accelerate toward a sustainable, net zero business model, and to ensure ongoing compliance with a variety of environmental consents, legislation, and policy.

This permanent position is well suited to an experienced individual with an appetite for continuous learning about sectors, clients and the application of new legislation.  We are looking for someone who wants to further advance their career in the thriving environmental and sustainability sector with a proven track record in preparing and submitting offshore EIA applications to the regulatory bodies. 

  • Undertake and support in the management of EIA project work
  • Undertake literature reviews and prepare research reports focusing on environmental planning and consent legislation
  • Support team with internal carbon footprint calculations and development of carbon calculator for offshore developments
  • Input into a range of ecological deliverables including: habitat management plans, strategic Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and/or Nature Inclusive design plans

 

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Input into client proposals for EIA advisory services and assessments of large and complex developments. This will often be in collaboration with other disciplines within DORIS.
  • Use your experience in environmental law and planning - to advise clients on consenting regulations and requirements
  • Preparation of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA); Appropriate Assessment and Annex VI risk assessments
  • Land management advice and habitat restoration
  • Assist in deputising management responsibilities and acting as a Lead on projects
  • Assist in the development and nurturing of graduate and developing engineers

  • Lead by example to maintain a strong SHEQ culture
  • Demonstrable commitment to sustainability practices and awareness of the critical importance of reducing our carbon footprint in all aspects of our work.
  • Promote a positive sustainability culture across social, economic, and environmental aspects.
  • Support implementation of the sustainability, net zero and SHEQ strategies;
  • Support environmental incident investigation and implementing corrective action;
  • Deliver environmental consent training;
  • Maintain good communications with the SHEQ and operational teams

 

Experience, Competencies & Soft Skills

  • Previous experience working with environmental consents in the UK
  • Previous experience of working with and liaising with UK environmental regulators
  • preparing environmental statements for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
  • Experience in consultation and engagement with regulatory bodies (i.e. Local Authorities, Environment Agency)
  • An understanding of UK and European environmental legislation and how this translates to providing the necessary advice to clients
  • Ability to provide advice to clients on how to reduce their carbon output and adopt meaningful sustainable solutions for their business
  • A knowledge of Nature Inclusive Design and the principals of Biodiversity Net gain with a further understanding of how to put in place systems to monitor their efficacy
  • Perform detailed studies and analyses
  • Demonstrable experience in complex report writing
  • Proficient in the use of Excel
  • Ability to present clear and cohesive arguments underpinned by reference to peer reviewed research
  • Genuine enthusiasm for subject
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritise workload
  • Focused on completion of work within the allocated time budget and by the due date.

 

 Qualifications

Science Degree in Ecology/ Biology / Environmental Management or Sustainability
