If you’re coming from a military engineering background and looking to move into the energy sector, this is a strong next step but there is a minimum technical requirement.
You must hold NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
This is essential due to the nature of the work on high-voltage infrastructure.
Resettlement Opportunity Available
If you’re still in service, we can support a 2–3 week placement during your resettlement period, where you will:
- Get hands-on exposure to HV environments
- Work alongside experienced engineers
- Understand systems, processes, and expectations
- Build real, site-based experience before committing
This gives both you and the business confidence before a permanent move.
What the Role Looks Like
You’ll be working as a field-based Service Engineer, supporting:
- HV/MV switchgear and transformers (415V–400kV)
- Sites across power generation, T&D, and industrial environments
This role involves:
- UK-wide travel
- Staying away during the week
- Working independently and within small teams
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintenance, inspection, and servicing of HV electrical equipment
- Supporting reliability of critical infrastructure
- Working to RAMS, permits, and isolation procedures
- Completing accurate documentation and reporting
- Operating safely in high-risk environments
What Transfers Well From the Military
You’ll be well suited if you have experience in:
- Electrical maintenance (plant, vehicles, aircraft, or systems)
- Power generation or distribution
- Working in structured, safety-critical environments
- Following strict procedures and documentation
What You’ll Need
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical (or equivalent qualification)
- Hands-on electrical engineering experience
- Strong understanding of safety and compliance
- Willingness to travel and stay away during the week
Desirable:
- Experience in HV / utilities / industrial environments
- HNC in Electrical Engineering
