About the Role
A leading UK manufacturer of engineered power‑generation systems is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Operative with strong diesel generator, mechanical assembly, and electrical integration experience. You will be involved in the full lifecycle build of generator packages ranging from 10–2500 kVA, including mechanical assembly, electrical fit‑out, testing, and occasional site support.
This role is ideal for candidates with a background in generator manufacturing, industrial mechanical assembly, rotating machinery, or heavy‑duty power systems.
Key Technical Responsibilities
- Mechanical and/or electrical assembly of diesel generator sets including:
- Engine–alternator coupling
- Radiator and cooling‑system installation
- Baseframe and skid assembly
- Control cubicle mounting and alignment
- Working from detailed mechanical and electrical engineering drawings
- Installation of pipework systems:
- BSP threaded pipework
- Mapress crimp systems
- Exhaust pipework fabrication and routing
- Installation of LV power cabling, glanding, containment, trunking, and mechanical cable support systems
- Large‑power cable termination and torque‑controlled connection work
- Supporting cranage operations and controlled lifting activities
- Use of hand and power tools including drills, grinders, cutting tools, torque tools, etc.
- Optional advanced tasks:
- Control harness manufacture and routing
- Control panel wiring and panel integration
- Copper bar fabrication, bending, drilling, and installation
- Generator testing, configuration, and fault‑finding in both automotive and AC electrical environments
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ mechanical and or electrical experience in industrial, manufacturing, generator, or automotive environments
- Proven experience assembling diesel generators or large mechanical/power‑system assemblies
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
- Competent with a wide range of hand and power tools
- Strong understanding of engineering practices and workshop safety
- Physically fit and comfortable working in a fabrication/manufacturing environment
- Full UK driving licence (minimal points)
- Must have NO unspent criminal convictions due to client and site security requirements
- Strong problem‑solving ability and logical approach to technical tasks
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- PC literate and able to complete basic documentation
- Reliable, organised, and quality‑focused with a proactive attitude
