  • Mechanical Engineer

A well-established Australian engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join its engineering team. Working predominantly with customers in the mining and minerals sector, you will take responsibility for specialised pilot-scale test rigs, process skids and associated mechanical equipment supplied to customers throughout Australia and internationally.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being involved in the complete project lifecycle – not someone who wants to spend all day behind a desk.

THE ROLE - You will work across both new equipment and refurbishment projects, including:

  • Managing mechanical equipment projects from concept through to completion
  • Working with pilot-scale test rigs, process skids, pumps, gauges and associated equipment
  • Coordinating fabrication, machining, fitting and assembly
  • Providing direction and technical support to tradespeople on the workshop floor
  • Developing test setups and overseeing equipment testing
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and equipment issues
  • Inspection and final sign-off prior to dispatch
  • Assisting with equipment layouts, modelling and general mechanical design
  • Supporting other engineering projects across different industries when required
  • Preparing equipment for shipment to customers throughout Australia and overseas

YOU - Ideally, you will have:

  • Mechanical Engineering qualifications
  • Experience with industrial, mining, process or specialised mechanical equipment
  • A practical understanding of fabrication, machining, fitting and manufacturing
  • Experience taking equipment from design through manufacture, assembly and testing
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • The confidence to work directly with tradespeople and provide technical direction
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to get involved on the shop floor
  • Good project coordination and communication skills

This company has its own fabrication, fitting and CNC machining facilities, giving you the opportunity to see your projects physically manufactured, assembled and tested rather than simply producing drawings and handing them over.

This is a genuine engineering ownership role offering variety, technical challenge and exposure to equipment supplied into major mining and industrial applications worldwide.
