About the Role
Reporting to the executive leadership team, the Group Payroll Manager will lead a large, high-volume, multi-entity payroll function.
This role requires a leader who can stay close enough to the detail to proactively manage day-to-day risk, while strengthening processes and controls that support sustainable delivery at scale. You will balance operational oversight with continuous improvement, ensuring the function runs efficiently while identifying opportunities to refine workflows, uplift capability and mitigate risk before issues arise.
Strong stakeholder engagement will be key, with the ability to confidently manage both upward to executive leadership and downward through multiple layers of payroll management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end payroll operations across a complex, multi-entity environment
- Manage and develop a payroll team of 30+ staff, including layered leadership
- Strengthen day-to-day processes and embed practical risk mitigation controls
- Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain close oversight of payroll accuracy, timeliness and compliance
- Partner with HR, Finance and broader stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery
- Provide steady, visible leadership across all levels of the function
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience leading large, high-volume payroll teams (30+ staff)
- Strong background in process improvement within complex environments
- Demonstrated ability to manage operational risk in real time
- Confident leader able to operate strategically while remaining detail-oriented
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across multiple levels
