With a fast-paced, collaborative culture, they are seeking an experienced Group Payroll Manager to oversee payroll across Australia, working closely with Finance and People & Culture teams. This is a transformational role with upcoming project work to enhance people, processes & systems.

About the Role:
In this role, you will manage the full payroll function for a medium sized & mixed workforce business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery across a complex national structure. The organisation operates under multiple industrial instruments & multi-entity, making this a challenging and rewarding environment for a strong people leader. You will lead and mentor a capable payroll team, balance hands-on management with strategic planning, and collaborate with key internal teams to continuously improve the payroll experience. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the payroll team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and taxation requirements
  • Work closely with Finance and People & Culture teams on reporting, budgeting, audits, and project initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and implement transformational improvements
  • Prepare payroll reports and insights for senior leadership
  • Provide expert payroll advice and manage escalated queries

Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience managing payroll in a medium to large, multi-state organisation, ideally in utilities, infrastructure, or similarly complex sectors
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll laws, modern awards, and compliance, including complex industrial instruments
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing a payroll team
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven ability to drive improvements and manage change across payroll operations
