Tooling Manager

Tooling Manager (NE52JG) Woodstock, England

Salary: GBP45000 - GBP50000 per annum + Pension, Holiday, Bonus

Our Client; 

We are thrilled to be working alongside a genuine leader within the medical device design and manufacturing industry, who are looking to expand and add a facilities technician to their team. 

The role;

  • Creating, implementing and constantly seeking to improve strategies and systems of work that will ensure all tools are properly maintained and that any tooling breakdowns are addressed with minimum disruption to the production schedule. Ensuring they are executed in an effective and technically robust manner.
  • KPI’s to monitor tooling performance, monthly spend (tools and consumables)
  • Maintain and become a champion of 6S in the tooling and tool store area
  • Toolstore ownership
  • Responsible for contributing towards 5 year capital expenditure plan for tools, Auxiliaries (including but not limited to tooling tool heaters , manifolds, dryers, hot runners, demagnetisers , localised chillers) and IMM’s
  • Actively monitoring and controlling the resource allocation and in order to ensure breakdowns, servicing, repairs,  investigations etc are performed.
  • Ensure all tooling assets have agreed, detailed and specific maintenance routines as well as schedules that are adhered to.
  • To manage tooling inventory so that the status of all tools is defined at all times, with appropriate levels of spares, maintaining a detailed and accurate asset register recording all tooling assets, locations and values.
  • On a monthly basis ensure that customers are recharged for tooling spares and servicing once the warranty period of any tooling has expired. To produce a monthly report detailing breakdowns and servicing investigating all excessive tooling related breakdowns to ensure that they do not re-occur
  • Liaise with the Industrialisation tooling function to ensure visibility of and agreed service strategies for all new tooling.
  • The negotiation, preparation, implementation management and monthly reporting on the annual tool maintenance budgets.
  • Provide leadership to the group ensuring effective team performance.
  • Develop, maintain and manage a continuous improvement culture
  • Manage, coach and develop the skills of the group
  • Facilitate improvements to process and procedures
  • Represent the function at Internal / External meetings and audits
  • Set and ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times
  • Set and ensure housekeeping and cleanliness standards are maintained
  • Provide a single point of contact for the H&S advisor for the group
  • Become SME for Risk assessments for the tooling area.(for example using Sevron or similar system)
  • Monitor the performance of tooling activities undertaken whether internally or externally taking appropriate corrective actions and making recommendations for improvements when needed.
  • Produce a monthly report detailing departmental activities against published KPI’s as well as monthly achievements / concerns
  • To personally comply and ensure teams operate at all times in a manner fully compliant with all regulatory guide lines and company Standard Operations Procedures (SOP’s) at all times.
  • To provide an out-of-hours service to cover emergency requirements
  • When required to participate in plant shutdowns for maintenance and to assist with shutdown works. This work usually occurs during the Christmas New Year period but can occur at other times
  • Conduct themselves at all times in a professional and courteous manner, and maintain a good appearance acceptable to our customers and management
  • The achievement of agreed personal and team objectives

Key skills & experience required; 

  • Management experience with teams of technical associates
  • Computer literate with solid report writing skills
  • Ability to confidently deal with people of all levels
  • Able to diagnose Tooling & Hot Runner Systems faults
  • Preventative Maintenance Procedures & Safe Best Practices
  • Significant and experience in the development of injection mould tooling systems and processes
  • Extensive know-how with multiple metrology tools / techniques.
  • Recognised Toolmaking / Engineering apprenticeship
  • NEBSM level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Recognised material processing qualifications
  • Min HNC in mechanical engineering subject or equivalent
