Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for Senior Technician / Technician (Materials) to work on a number of applied engineering programmes across the Institute's research portfolio.

You will:

  • Synthesise and characterise materials, including assessing magnetic, electrical, and thermal properties in temperatures down to cryogenic.
  • Take primary responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the PPMS, SQUID, Interferometer & Sputtering machines housed within the Robinson Institute.
  • Mechanically and electrically assemble experiments, under the close supervision of our researchers.
  • Assist in the training of students, staff and external users.
  • Deal with day to day enquiries and bookings.
  • Ensure that the analytical facilities operate at optimum effectiveness.

Successful applicants will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant industry experience relevant to the position.

You will be someone with a proven ability to work well within a team of people, and to communicate and interact effectively with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds and ages, whilst also being able to work in a semi-autonomous capacity, providing flexible client-focused support services.
