Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence to join the Faculty of Engineering on a permanent, full-time contract.

The Faculty of Engineering at Victoria University of Wellington is developing world-leading undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Artificial Intelligence (AI). We will combine research excellence with innovative and motivating teaching to create the leading centre for Artificial Intelligence in Australasia, located in one of the world’s most desirable countries to live in. Our programmes will encompass the technical design and implementation of AI, whilst also including the relevant aspects of computer science, software engineering, network engineering, electronic and computer system engineering, statistics, operations research, information management and biology.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will be a motivated, research-driven individual with a PhD in a relevant aspect of AI, including (but not limited to): symbolic regression and statistical/mathematical modelling; feature selection and dimensionality reduction; evolutionary deep learning and transfer learning; and evolutionary clustering and unsupervised learning; neural networks; manifold learning; computer vision and image analysis; and natural language processing.

You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of teaching and research.

Key Requirements:
• A completed a doctoral qualification in an AI related field.
• Experience in teaching as well as supervising at postgraduate level
• A record of scholarly research
• A commitment to working with research teams and seeking research funding.
