Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role 

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting 4 Postdoctoral Research Fellows (2-year fixed-term) in Artificial Intelligence to work as a member of the Artificial Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation Research Group within the School of Engineering and Computer Science.   

Key Responsibilities:  

The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct high-quality research in the area of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly modelling and symbolic regression, evolutionary feature selection, and dimensionality reduction, evolutionary deep learning and transfer learning, text mining and natural language processing, evolutionary scheduling and combinatorial optimisation, evolutionary clustering and unsupervised learning, and interpretable AI. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be required to work with other members of the Evolutionary Computation Research Group within the School in a proactive, cooperative, and collegial manner. The Postdoctoral Fellow will also be required to contribute to the teaching in Artificial Intelligence including postgraduate supervision.

You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of research.  

Key Requirements: 

  • A PhD in AI and machine learning particularly Evolutionary Learning and Optimisation. 
  • Proven research and publication track record in Evolutionary Learning and Optimisation, Genetic Programming, Image Analysis, Transfer Learning, Text and Natural Language Processing.  
  • Proven ability to teach in one or more areas of computer science including Artificial Intelligence, Programming, Algorithm Design, and Analysis. 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English. 
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills especially across cultures.
