Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting Manager, Transition and Graduation to join Tītoko- Centre for Student Success. The role is responsible for the management and oversight of graduation services for all students and orientation and transitional programmes that enhance the first-year student experience; to ensure consistency, quality and efficiency of service to relevant stakeholders. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the operational planning, monitoring, and reporting of the orientation and transition programmes at the start of each trimester. 
  • Oversee the operational planning, monitoring, and reporting for Graduation including the preparation of the planning timeline for conferment via Council and ceremonies.
  • Exhibit a continuous improvement approach and maintain an awareness of sector best practice in transition, orientation, and graduation.
  • Provide effective leadership, management and coaching to the team to drive and maintain alignment with the University’s strategic goals, Paerangi the Student Success Framework, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Framework goals and the University’s Māori and core ethical values.

You will be a motivated, customer-focused individual who can take the initiative, provide excellent administration and policy compliance. 

You will thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people, an ability to influence and manage conflict, strong attention to detail, and self-management skills. This role is busy, challenging, extremely rewarding and interesting for the individual.

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of service to both students and staff. The ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders.  

Key Requirements: 

  • Tertiary degree, or comparable professional experience in a similar role. 
  • Demonstrated ability to review operational business processes and make improvements to achieve efficiencies.
  • Proven ability to work successfully at a strategic and operational level. 
  • Proven ability to manage competing and changing priorities and deliver to deadlines. 
  • Proven ability to effectively develop, motivate and manage a team. 
  • Experience working with large volumes of information at a detailed level.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
