Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a full-time Administrator to join the Ferrier Research Institute based in Gracefield Lower Hutt.

The Institute undertakes chemistry and biochemistry projects focussed on improving the world we live in, mostly through health applications. Approximately 70 professional scientists and graduate students make up our dedicated research group. The admin team is highly valued by the wider organisation as our role contributes significantly to delivering on this mission. We are a diverse group who thrive on variety, teamwork and camaraderie.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide general administrative support to the Ferrier Research Institute including managing stock levels for general consumables.
  • Undertake financial processing tasks (eg. Purchasing, receipting in the finance system), and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers.
  • Assist Institute Manager with onboarding new staff, co-ordinating events and training.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

You will be a self-motivated, flexible and organised individual who can develop and maintain good working relationships with all staff in the Ferrier Research Institute and the wider University. 

You will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

This role is interesting, challenging, and rewarding for an individual with a good attitude and motivation.

The Administrator will report day to day to the Institute Manager. The role will also work closely with the Institute Director, Deputy Director, members of the leadership team, Institute Administrators, as well as stakeholders outside of the Institute.

Key Requirements: 

  • Effective people skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with a wide variety of tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage own workload.
  • Previous office and administration experience would be an advantage, but not necessary.
  • Full NZ Drivers licence.
