Are you interested in a career in research? Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a part-time Research Assistant to join the Centre for Women’s Health Research team (Te Tātai Hauora O Hine) and participate in a new project exploring the impact of Methamphetamine on the health and well-being of Māori pregnant women, their infants, and whānau. This is a newly created role for a fixed term of two years, working collaboratively with Ngāti Pāhauwera and the Te Wairoa community to undertake a Kaupapa Māori qualitative study to help develop a community/iwi solution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting research activities on established projects, including undertaking literature reviews, research planning, ethics applications, interview planning, collection of data and supporting data analysis and the write up of research findings.
  • Effectively planning and organising work to ensure project delivery targets are
  • Working collaboratively with research team members, internally within the Centre for Women’s Health Research, externally within Victoria University of Wellington, and externally with other researchers.
  • Liaising with Iwi and Te Wairoa community representatives.
  • Supporting the dissemination of the results of research via written and oral presentations, including the Centre for Women’s Health Research publication series and website, in internationally refereed journals and by presentations at conferences and
  • Assist with developing new grant applications and proposals.
  • Undertaking other research duties as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Completed tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or other relevant qualifications commensurate with the seniority of the role.
  • Experience working with social services.
  • Experience working with alcohol and/or drug addiction for whānau and pregnant women.
  • Understanding of methamphetamine usage in pregnancy.
  • Understanding of Kaupapa Māori Research.
  • Demonstrated evidence of good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with whānau, staff, and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated evidence of engagement and/or collaboration with colleagues in research.
  • Commitment to the academic discipline and to the University, the wider community and, where appropriate, the profession.
  • Commitment to contribute to the development and vision of Te Tātai Hauora O Hine.
