Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Operations Manager to proactively manage and improve the operations of the University’s Legal Services team and drive operational initiatives to completion.  

You will work closely with the General Counsel and key senior stakeholders to champion simplicity, create processes and practices to improve the day-to-day efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal Services team, facilitate and enable change, control costs, ensure outstanding customer service, champion process improvement and automation, and implement and optimise legal technology initiatives.  

In addition, you will provide leadership for the University’s OIA, privacy and policy functions and ensure that relevant processes are optimised, efficient and that the University meets its legal obligations. 

You will bring your extensive experience and can-do attitude to a varied and dynamic environment that provides plenty of opportunities and challenges.  You will have: 

  • Experience with legal operations and management (either in-house or in a law firm) 
  • Experience in developing and optimising policies and processes 
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and using legal technology solutions 
  • Well-developed organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work autonomously and flexibly under pressure, manage competing demands and prioritise workload to meet deadlines in a busy environment 
  • Excellent commercial acumen and experience 
  • Ability to build, develop and maintain strong working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation 

The Legal Services team is responsible for the provision of all legal advice and services to the University.   The team enables the University to achieve its strategic objectives, aims to “make life easier” for University staff, and champions simplicity over complexity.  You will gain experience working in a small but busy team and enjoy an opportunity to lead and influence change and shape the future direction of the team.
