Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role 

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Senior Advisor Training and Emergency Planning to join the Safety, Risk and Assurance team on a permanent, fulltime basis. The role will be responsible for leading delivery of emergency planning and related systems, policies, and practices throughout the University and oversight of safety and risk training. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain and continuously improve the University’s Emergency Management Framework. 
  • Develop and review emergency plans and provide emergency management advice to staff. 
  • Deliver an emergency management training, exercise, and maintenance programme to ensure staff and volunteers are appropriately trained for their roles and resources are ready for deployment when needed. 
  • Act as Response Manager on the University Incident Management Team during responses to major incidents. 
  • Oversee the University’s safety and risk training programme. 

Ō pūmanawa - About you 
 
You will be an emergency management professional with experience in developing and delivering training and maintaining operational readiness. You will be able to think strategically and adapt to prioritise workstreams relevant to current and arising emergency risks. 

You will have excellent relationship and communication skills, and the ability to coach others, including under pressure during incident responses. 

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance planning, advisory, and training services to staff at all levels of the University. You will have an ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders. 

You will thrive in this role if you are able to instil enthusiasm for emergency management in others, and able to build capability through providing advice and feedback, and through training and exercising. 

Key Requirements: 

  • Expert understanding and experience of emergency management, business continuity and health and safety principles and practices. 
  • Experience in developing and delivering emergency management training. 
  • Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different audiences. 
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities.
