Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Principal Adviser, Academic Integrity to join the Academic Office. The role will provide leadership and support of academic integrity in learning and teaching at the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and disseminate current knowledge of international best practices relating to academic integrity and effective approaches to maintain high standards throughout Te Herenga Waka.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the university’s academic integrity policies and procedures, initiating and supporting proposals for change where necessary.
  • Ensure the system used for recording instances of academic misconduct is operated and maintained in a manner reflecting good practice.
  • Contribute to staff and student induction to provide information about academic integrity and student discipline processes.
  • Collaborate with the Centre of Academic Development on on-going professional development for staff.
  • Ensure that the Te Herenga Waka academic integrity resources, including websites, are current, consistent, and accurate.

You will be an experienced educator or education professional with a particular interest in the maintenance of academic integrity as well as knowledge in contemporary assessment practices.

You will thrive in this role with an ability to work with academics and professional staff at all levels and to use research to influence good practice.

You will be a self-starter able to seek out different ways to engage with issues as they arise and to develop information and resources as needed.

Key Requirements:

  • Postgraduate tertiary qualification.
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of academic integrity in the tertiary education sector including how to minimise the likelihood of cheating and/or plagiarism by students.
  • Ability to approach difficult and confronting matters safely, professionally and with empathy.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of policy and procedures.
