Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is recruiting for a new position of Director, Student Experience and Wellbeing that has been designed as part of the creation of a new Student Experience and Wellbeing group. The group will deliver a range of quality outcomes that support the student experience and enhance the wellbeing of students.

As Director you will be responsible for ensuring that the University meets the requirements in the new Pastoral Care Code. You will need to provide clear leadership in this space and ensure that a whole-of-organisation approach is taken. You will provide high-level advice and support to the Vice-Provost (Academic); provide strategic leadership to the Student Experience and Wellbeing group, and contribute to the fulfilment of the University’s strategic directions and goals. You will also engage with Faculty and other units, as well as student representatives, to ensure the seamless delivery of services.

You will be challenged by the demands placed on the University by a rapidly changing external environment and the need to work successfully as leader of a team that faces competing demands and also makes demands of others within a devolved and multi-campus environment. A further challenge will be to maintain high-quality services which enhance the student experience and meet the highest professional standards within an environment of financial constraint.

You will possess advanced leadership, decision-making, and prioritising skills, and be known for your strategic thinking.

In addition, you will also:

  • enjoy managing and leading a multi-disciplinary team.
  • contribute to the strategic direction of a complex organisation.
  • be able to manage resources and to plan and manage large projects.
  • have experience in successfully managing change and empowering others to deliver change.
  • have experience in the effective delivery of student services.
  • take a consistent, constructive and tactful approach to develop and maintain excellent working relationships internally and externally.
