Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The School of Biological Sciences is currently recruiting a Senior Tutor to join our teaching team. Reporting to the Head of School, the primary responsibilities in this position are:

  • Leading the delivery of laboratory classes at 100-, 200- and 300-level.
  • Leading or participating in the recruitment, training and management of laboratory demonstrators.
  • Contributing to the development of new laboratory classes.
  • Providing teaching support for one or more course coordinators, with respect to student support, assessment and blended learning.

Please note this is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position.

We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic Senior Tutor who can work independently and also contribute positively to the wider teaching team. You will:

  • Have a postgraduate qualification in molecular or cellular biology, microbiology, or similar.
  • Have experience in successful teaching and tutoring at tertiary level, ideally in the context of undergraduate laboratory classes.
  • Have enthusiasm for teaching, and familiarity with innovation in learning and teaching practice.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enjoy working with a range of people including students and staff.
