 Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Principal Advisor Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to join the Organisational Development team. The role will be responsible for providing advice, leading university-wide EDI initiatives and evaluating progress towards the achievement of an inclusive culture and positive equity outcomes.  This is a senior influencing leadership role reporting to the Associate Director Organisational Development. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • To provide advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders so that they can foster a university-wide culture and environment that is inclusive and enables the achievement of positive equity outcomes.
  • To develop university-wide solutions to complex EDI challenges.
  • To deliver training programmes and continuous education initiatives to increase cultural awareness, promote understanding of diversity and inclusion issues, and enhance staff skill base, knowledge, and cultural intelligence.
  • To track and evaluate the effectiveness of EDI initiatives and programmes to ensure they remain fit for purpose and contribute to the achievement of the University’s strategy and goals.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will have deep experience in facilitating agreement of Equity Diversity and Inclusion aspirations and clarifying goals across a wide variety of stakeholders. You will have strong relationship-building skills and be energised though engaging with a variety of stakeholders and partnering with HR colleagues, leadership teams, and equity groups to deliver across university programmes. Your drive to track, measure and evaluate progress will be a huge asset as we enhance and deepen our university-wide commitment to creating a culture that enables Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. 

To deliver in this unique role you will be able to draw from a strong specialist knowledge of how to apply equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and best practice. 

Key Requirements: 

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and facilitating the achievement of EDI outcomes in a complex, multi-stakeholder and multi-cultural environment.
  • Highly developed advisory skills, including communication, relationship management, collaboration, facilitation, influence and lateral thinking.
  • A deep understanding of equity group needs, including Māori, Pacific, disability, rainbow, refugee.
  • Understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for Tertiary Education.
