Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an Alumni Engagement Manager to join the Engagement and Alumni team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Our team – the Engagement and Alumni team – is tasked with driving excellence in engagement, events, graduation and alumni engagement. If you’re passionate about making a positive impact, come join us.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team of four working across alumni and general engagement.
  • Developing and implementing engagement opportunities that support the University’s strategic goals and are alumni-centric.
  • Leading and delivering the University’s central alumni engagement programme of events, communications, and specific alumni projects.
  • Coordinating a network of international alumni ambassadors.
  • Leading and supporting a range of alumni engagement initiatives with colleagues across the university relating to student recruitment, mentoring and communications.
  • Support and champion the University’s 125th-anniversary celebrations.
  • Being the first port of call for a wide variety of questions, queries and opportunities from alumni and staff across the University.

Ideally, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment, have excellent attention to detail, and understand the importance of developing good relationships. You’ll enjoy variety in your work, be a motivated and organised individual, and be comfortable taking initiative.

You will thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people, and ability to influence and manage competing demands, and strong attention to detail and self-management skills.

Key requirements:

  • Experience in stakeholder or membership engagement, events and/or communications.
  • Knowledge of alumni engagement.
  • Outstanding people and communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities and leadership responsibilities.
