University Accommodation Wellington is looking for someone who is passionate about student success and welfare to be its Manager of Student Wellbeing. With over 3,000 students entering University Halls of Residence each year, the University Accommodation Wellington team works together to provide high quality care, support and community to ensure that students in our University accommodation live in an environment that supports their wellbeing and encourages academic success.
The welfare of our resident student community is our highest priority. Our students living in first year halls of residence and independent living accommodation experience a range of challenges around wellbeing and mental health, managing finances and increased academic expectations, as well as forming new relationships and social circles as they navigate university life.
This role has been created to ensure there is a collaborative and consistent approach to wellbeing in their living environment, and this a valuable opportunity to have a significant impact on the students’ academic and personal success at university, and to deepen the student experience at Victoria University of Wellington.
This role leads the implementation of the student wellbeing strategy across the University’s halls and partner halls in conjunction with hall staff, Student Support Coordinators and other University support services including Student Health and Student Counselling to ensure there is a strong focus on pastoral care, academic success, health and safety, and wellbeing for our residents.
With your unique overview of the halls, you will be responsible for delivering training of University Accommodation wellbeing and critical incident procedures and processes across all halls, as well as the collation and analysis of Halls related critical incident reporting. Based at the Kelburn campus, you also supervise Wellington Hall, our ‘hall without walls’ which offers support and events to first year students who are not in Halls of Residence.
Ideally with a background in social work, and or the tertiary, health sector, we are looking for someone who has experience managing wellbeing concerns in the context of communal living in a city environment for a culturally diverse group of young adults, including Māori and Pasifika, and international students. This will come with an understanding of the duty of pastoral care, successful implementation of wellbeing and learning plans, and their role in supporting student academic and personal growth, safety, and success.
The ideal candidate has experience implementing continuous quality assurance and risk and compliance frameworks, including analysis, reporting, follow up, and remedial activity. With a strong understanding of risk management in a welfare context, experience in first-responder situations for critical incidents and events is required. This role shares an on call component with the Associate Director.
