Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Robinson Research Institute has an international reputation for superconducting engineering, materials physics and manufacturing engineering. We offer a unique opportunity for a high-achieving technician to work alongside some of NZ’s top research scientists and engineers and contribute to a range of cutting-edge research projects that involve the development of new concepts in materials and manufacturing - from discovery science through to commercial implementation.

We are seeking a Senior Technician / Technician (Space) to work on a number of applied engineering programmes across the Institute's research portfolio.

You will:

  • Assist in the integration of electromagnetic, electrical and mechanical components into systems including MR, rotating machines in line with best practice.
  • Provide technical support to facilitate design and manufacture electromagnetic systems.
  • Provide design and manufacture input into cryogenic environments for any of the superconducting devices under development within Robinson Research Institute
  • Provide training and guidance to Robinson Research Institute staff and students in best-practice manufacturing techniques for cryogenic / general engineering environments.
  • Wind coils suitable for integration in both LTS & HTS magnets.
  • Provide general electrical / mechanical / technical support to programmes across the Robinson Institute as required.

Successful applicants will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or industry experience relevant to the position.

You will be an energetic person with proven ability to work well within a team of people, and to communicate and interact effectively with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds and ages, whilst also being able to work in a semi-autonomous capacity, providing flexible client focused support services.

Registration with the NZ Electrical Workers Registration Board would be an advantage.
