Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role 

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Research Capability Team Leader. 

Based in the Centre for Academic Development, the Research Capability Team Leader is responsible for leading researcher professional development programmes and key digital research services within Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. The role’s primary focus is to promote and support the utilisation of digital technology to enhance the research lifecycle, in order to help Te Herenga Waka achieve its strategic goal of ambitious research for transformative impact.  

Key Responsibilities include:   

  • Leading the programmes of professional development that are aligned, and directly contribute to, the Rangahau / Research pathway, standards, and indicators within the Academic Career Framework.
  • Co-designing academic professional development/support activities and events.
  • Leading the development and increased use of Rāpoi, Te Herenga Waka’s high performance computing facility.  
  • Ensuring the effective evaluation, and continuous improvement, of research professional development, events and initiatives.
  • Engaging across Te Herenga Waka to promote and scale-up research professional development.

You will be a motivated, creative individual who has a passion for research and education. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, flexible and diverse team, while taking the lead to support the enhancement and creation of educational experiences for researchers, professional staff and students across the university.  

You rise to the challenge of an ever-changing work environment focusing on enabling transformational research through capability development and research innovation. You are outgoing, have no problem learning new skills and enjoy training others on your areas of expertise.

Key Requirements:   

  • Demonstrated experience of academic professional development in a tertiary environment.
  • Experience in the use of high performance computing services, infrastructure, and associated capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work closely with academic staff across all disciplines and levels. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and oral communication.
  • Organised, efficient and with a good attention to detail.
