Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role 

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting  a full-time Software Engineering Programmer to permanently join the  Technical team. The role will be responsible for providing high quality and timely technical support in the area of Cybersecurity both in the research area and the undergraduate courses.  

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Provide advanced technical assistance in the design and construction of cybersecurity assets requested by academic staff.  
  • Conduct research, update and test security software to ensure that it is fit for purpose across platforms. 
  • Provide advanced technical advice and assistance to staff and students in the construction, operation of, and access to relevant security programs. 
  • Provide specialised technical support for students and staff using the computer-based facilities in the computer science and cybersecurity engineering programmes, including technical subject matter expertise for ECS. 
  • Collaborate with academics and other stakeholders by providing technical cybersecurity engineering advice to investigate, design and implement appropriate learning experiences including laboratory experiences that support learning and teaching for undergraduate cybersecurity.

You will be a motivated, customer-focused individual who can take the initiative ad provide excellent technical cybersecurity expertise. 

You will thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people, an ability to influence and manage technology change, strong attention to detail, and self-management skills. This role is busy, challenging, extremely rewarding and interesting for the individual with the right attitude.   

You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to the Engineering Technical team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of service to both students and staff. The ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders. 

Key Requirements:   

  • Minimum of a degree in the area such as computer science or software engineering.  
  • Proven experience in the use of digital technologies for teaching and learning, preferably in the tertiary sector.
  • Proven programming skills appropriate to a qualification with proven experience in Java, Python and C or C++. 
  • Strong interest in modern/digital online modes of delivery and instructional design methodologies.
  • A strong foundational knowledge of computer science, software development and cybersecurity is essential. A proven understanding of capabilities in several of these areas is ideal.
