Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an Associate Director, Operations to join the Development and Alumni Relations team as a member of the leadership and decision-making team within the Development and Alumni Relations Office.

This integral role will be responsible for leading and managing the Development and Alumni Relations Services team. The Associate Director, Operations will provide leadership and oversight for all operational areas within the Development and Alumni Relations Office with primary emphasis on database administration, data analysis, reporting functions, research, fiscal administration, proposal writing, donor reporting, and gift processing.

This role will provide strategic analysis of prospect and donor data; giving trends; and engagement activity that will contribute to determining the goals and objectives of the Office. The Associate Director, Operations also has oversight of budgets, policies, and processes for the unit.

Key Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree and significant professional experience in a comparable environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working at a strategic level within a team.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Proven ability to maintain effective relationships both inside and outside the University.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate high integrity in working with confidential information.
  • Understand standard financial, budget, and investment principles and processes.
  • Experience with MS Office products, databases and constituent relationship management (CRM) systems.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal office hours, e.g. evening work to attend University and Development and Alumni Relations Office events.
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally, if required.
  • A sound knowledge of the current tertiary environment and understanding of emerging directions and challenges in this environment as well as international trends and issues.
