Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for an experienced midwifery clinician for the role of Senior Lecturer (Teaching) in Midwifery to join the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Practice. The Senior Lecturer (Teaching) will be expected to teach into the Bachelor of Midwifery and potentially the Master of Health (Midwifery) programmes. The Senior Lecturer (Teaching) is expected to continue to build upon their teaching expertise and teach across all three trimesters of the university calendar.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching in the Bachelor of Midwifery Programme within the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Practice
  • Play an active role in the development of taught content in the undergraduate Bachelor of Midwifery Programme within the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Practice, including on-going curriculum review of module content and materials and contribution to learning and teaching strategy
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s wider academic and strategic direction and planning
  • Engage in professional development that leads to enhanced teaching practice and inclusion of practitioner perspectives
  • Contribute to the School’s engagement with stakeholders, particularly in respect of health agencies, including with government, district heath boards and partners relevant to our capital city location.

The incumbent will be an enthusiastic teacher, with a Masters in a relevant field and experience commensurate with the level of appointment. The following attributes are essential: 

  • Registered Midwife with a current MCNZ practicing certificate
  • A completed Master’s degree in a relevant field, or other relevant qualifications commensurate with the role
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in midwifery at pre-registration/tertiary level  
  • Demonstrated evidence of developing skill with a range of pedagogies and technologies.      
  • Demonstrated evidence of good oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Evidence of commitment to the use of technology and innovation to enhance teaching practice
