Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a 12-month fixed term Student Support Coordinator to work specifically with students in our Halls of Residences as part of Student Counselling. This is a full-time role.
The Student Support Coordinators (SSCs) are a team of four health practitioners who provide a confidential support service for hall residents (mostly first year Students) experiencing any health or wellbeing issues that may impact on their ability to manage the demands of their living and academic environments. The SSC liaises with faculties, schools and other support services on and off campus to ensure that residents receive the support they need.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
You will have an interest in working with young adults and mature students, preferably in a university and residence setting, and an ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
You will maintain an effective multidisciplinary approach to client care working closely with staff from Campus Living (Halls of Residences) Student Health and Counselling, and across the University. You will have the ability to carry out needs assessments and to work therapeutically with people who have a wide range of emotional, social, cultural, and mental health issues.
Knowledge and experience of work in the tertiary sector, within a hall of residence or other community living environment and within mental health services would be helpful, as would experience in working with Maori, Pasifika or Rainbow people.
For your application to be considered, you must have:
- At least 2 years of post-study experience as a social worker, counsellor, occupational therapist or other relevant health practitioner
- A relevant applied university degree be a full member/registered member of a relevant professional association in New Zealand and hold a current practicing certificate.
This role requires safety checking through the police vetting system under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
