Financial Controller

Salary: GBP50000 - GBP65000 per annum

Our client is a well-established business rapidly expanding in the property and development sector. As a result, they are looking for a Financial Controller to join their team. As the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for taking ownership of the finances for the Group, being hands-on and proactive, ensuring that all financial processes are managed efficiently and accurately, leading a small finance team and ensuring that the company complies with all relevant regulations. You will also be a key team member, working closely with the Managing Director, Property Director and external stakeholders, not only on financial matters but also on operational and commercial projects to improve the overall business performance.

As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for:

  • Financial Control Fully responsible for the control and reporting of the Group, maintaining robust and timely financial reporting, preparing accounts and ensuring all day-to-day accounting is accurate, including Balance Sheet controls accounts and the preparation of quarterly Board Reports;
  • Cashflow Preparation of cashflows forecasts and reporting, including working capital management and liaison with external finance providers;
  • Staff Management Fully responsible for the recruitment, performance and development of a small finance team, ensuring personal development plans and training needs are recognised;
  • Budgeting and Planning Lead for the financial delivery of the strategic plan and annual budgeting process;
  • Statutory Reporting and Tax Managing all the year-end processes, producing the annual financial statements and Tax submissions, including VAT. Being the point of contact for external auditors and tax authorities;
  • Banking Relationships Responsible for managing existing relationships, including compliance with covenants and renewal of existing facilities. Identifying and developing relationships with alternative finance providers;
  • Ad hoc Projects Assisting in the continuous development of the financial systems for financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting and finance control across the company;
  • Group Initiatives Contributing to strategic projects, advising on financial issues, ad hoc projects, and implementing group initiatives.

The ideal Financial Controller will:

  • Be a qualified accountant, ideally ACMA, ACCA, or ACA;
  • Have a hands-on finance background ideally from a small but growing owner-managed business;
  • Be able to produce financial statements and be confident in reporting to directors and external stakeholders;
  • Have led a finance team and have excellent management skills;
  • Have excellent IT skills in Excel and worked with an integrated IT system;
  • Be proactive in driving continuous improvement projects in a flexible collaborative way;
  • Have the ability to work autonomously but also can think pro-actively;
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to develop and manage relationships with external stakeholders.

In return the Financial Controller package:

Salary: £50,000 – 65,000 pa
