MRD Recruitment is currently recruiting a Commodity Buyer for a 12-month period for one of our clients based in Falkirk.
The Opportunity
As a Commodity Buyer, you’ll take ownership of a defined group of commodities, playing a key role in driving cost reduction, supplier performance, and commercial value across the business. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you’ll develop and deliver commodity strategies, lead supplier negotiations, and use market intelligence to improve cost, quality, and supply continuity. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you’ll contribute directly to business performance while helping to build a resilient and competitive supply base.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of a defined group of commodities, ensuring effective sourcing and ongoing performance management.
- Develop and implement commodity strategies aligned with wider business objectives.
- Gather and utilise supply market intelligence to deliver commercial advantage.
- Maximise supplier competition and collaboration to drive value and innovation.
- Design, issue, evaluate, and manage RFQs and tenders as required.
- Identify value improvement opportunities and deliver agreed cost-reduction targets.
- Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers across assigned commodities.
- Monitor commodity price movements and capitalise on cost opportunities.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to ensure continuity of supply.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage supplier performance using scorecards and structured reviews.
- Identify, introduce, and develop new suppliers to improve cost, capability, and resilience.
- Act as a role model for company values and culture at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar procurement or commodity management role.
- Professional qualification in Purchasing or Supply (e.g. CIPS) or a relevant business degree is preferred.
