MRD Recruitment are currently recruiting a Strategic Sourcing & Contracts Manager for one of our Manufacturing clients based in East Lothian.

About the Role

The Strategic Sourcing & Contracts Manager will be responsible for leading strategic sourcing initiatives and managing the full lifecycle of supplier contracts across the manufacturing operation. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, the role will focus on delivering commercial value, ensuring supply continuity, and embedding strong contractual governance.

This position requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution, with accountability for sourcing projects, supplier negotiations, and ongoing contract performance. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping supplier relationships, managing risk, and supporting the business in meeting its operational and financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

  • Develop and execute category strategies aligned to business objectives and cost-reduction targets
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing activities including RFx processes, negotiations, supplier selection, and award
  • Identify and deliver cost savings, value-engineering initiatives, and risk-mitigation strategies
  • Monitor market trends, supply risks, and cost drivers within key manufacturing categories

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong, performance-driven relationships with key suppliers
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into sourcing strategies
  • Drive supplier performance management, including KPIs, continuous improvement, and corrective actions

Contracts Management

  • Own the full contract lifecycle: drafting, negotiation, execution, renewal, and termination
  • Ensure contracts are commercially robust, compliant, and aligned with company risk appetite
  • Manage variations, disputes, and contract performance issues as they arise
  • Maintain contract governance frameworks and ensure adherence to internal policies

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure sourcing and contracting activities comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards
  • Support audits and contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes and controls

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing and contracts management within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills with a track record of delivering measurable value
  • Solid understanding of supply chain, cost structures, and supplier risk in manufacturing
  • Experience managing medium to high-value, complex contracts
  • Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, Engineering, or related field
  • Professional procurement qualification (e.g., CIPS or equivalent)
  • Experience with ERP / procurement systems
