Children's Support Worker (CSWDON) Doncaster, England

Salary: GBP16 - GBP18 per hour

We are seeking calm, patient and reliable Support Workers to support a young autistic male with complex sensory, communication and regulation needs.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is compassionate, observant and able to provide consistent support within structured routines and environments.

The young person communicates primarily through gestures, symbols, leading adults to preferred items/activities and some single-word verbal communication. He enjoys sensory-based activities, routine, swimming, movement breaks, drives in the community and quiet low-demand environments.

Support is required both within the home and out in the community. The successful candidate must be able to work as part of a wider team and follow agreed behavioural and sensory support strategies consistently.

Main Duties:

  • Provide safe, person-centred support in the home and community.
  • Support access to activities, outings and sensory-based experiences.
  • Follow structured routines and visual communication systems.
  • Support emotional regulation using agreed calming and de-escalation strategies.
  • Maintain a calm, low-arousal approach during periods of anxiety or dysregulation.
  • Support with personal care where required.
  • Follow risk assessments, behaviour support plans and safeguarding procedures.
  • Complete accurate daily recordings and incident reports where necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, education staff and other professionals.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 6–12 months experience supporting children, young people or adults with additional needs.
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism and/or ADHD.
  • Understanding of behaviours associated with distress and dysregulation.
  • Ability to follow Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies and support plans.
  • A calm, patient and emotionally regulated approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Enhanced Adults and Children’s DBS check placed on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training relevant to the role.
  • Equivalent lived or transferable experience will also be considered (Subject to Satisfactory referencing of this experience)
  • Candidates must have availability across weekday evenings, school holidays, and weekend long-day shifts, as flexibility across these times is essential to meet the needs of the role.

Applicants should ideally have:

  • NAPPI Level 1 and/or Level 2 training (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Experience working with individuals who display behaviours of distress.
  • Experience supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal autistic individuals.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
  • Understanding of low-arousal and trauma-informed approaches.
  • PECS, visual communication or intensive interaction experience.
  • First Aid training.
  • Experience supporting individuals with ADHD and sensory regulation needs.
  • Experience supporting community access and educational transitions.
  • Equivalent training and relevant practical experience will also be considered.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.

This role involves supporting an individual who may at times display behaviours associated with anxiety, sensory overload and dysregulation. Full training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.

The successful candidate will be expected to follow all safeguarding, health and safety and behaviour support guidance.
