1:1 Teaching Assistant - SEN (PR-1543127:LON) Godalming, England

Salary: GBP22137.8 - GBP23565.6 per annum + PAYE, Referral Bonus

We are currently looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant for a school based in Godalming. You will be working 1:1 with students aged 7-19 years old who have a range of complex needs and disabilities for example autism and Nonverbal Learning Disability (NVLD).

The school offers a wide range of qualified therapists for speech and language therapy, as well as facilities such as a large woodland for exploration and learning, therapy suites, specialised classrooms and recreation areas focused on student leisure, games and sports. 

We operate a strict no-sponsorship policy; all applicants must have the permanent right to work in the UK.

Working Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30–16:00

Responsibilities

  • You will be working to support, encourage and monitor the learning on a 1:1 basis. Focusing on the development and engagement of the student and building a bond of trust in an environment designed specifically for SEN pupils. 
  • Assist with the delivery of fundamental subjects, including PSHE, numeracy, and literacy, while fostering essential daily living skills.
  • Utilise multi-sensory techniques, such as signs, Makaton, symbols, or specialised aids, to enhance student communication.
  • Offer emotional guidance to help students navigate feelings of frustration or anxiety and develop effective self-regulation strategies.
  • Collaborate within a committed, expert team that provides extensive mentoring and training; this includes full instruction for roles requiring personal care support.

 

You Must Have…

  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent. 
  • Proven experience working with SEN students and the ability to work as part of a team. 
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude towards learning. 
  • Proven experience working as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant or within special education. 
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check.

Ideally You Will Have…

  • Experience working with non-verbal students and an understanding of the condition as well as Autistic Spectrum Disorder. 
  • Qualification in the last 12 months from Safeguarding and Prevent training - preferred but not necessary.
