What’s in it for you?

What’s the role?
This position is funded to provide services to people affected by the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission).

Clients of the program include, but are not limited to people with disabilities, their families, and paid or unpaid carers. The service provides high quality trauma-informed counselling and casework for those affected by, or engaged with, the DRC. Priority will be given to safety and a service that empowers and enhances clients’ personal agency.

Duties include:

  • Provide trauma-informed, client-focused, and accessible counselling and support to people who have been affected by the Disability Royal Commission. This includes providing services in the RA-NT office, in the community or at clients’ residence, and telecommunication
  • Provide social and practical support to meet the needs of individual clients, including appropriate referrals to external agencies and other Relationships Australia NT programs.
  • Assist clients in making submissions to the Disability Royal Commission including working with associated advocacy and legal services
  • Work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse individuals and communities in a culturally sensitive and respectful way
  • Deliver services, community engagement and liaise with stakeholders across the entire Northern Territory potentially requiring urban, regional and remote travel.

Is this the right role for you?
Not limited to but before you apply, we need you to have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or another relevant qualification
  • A satisfactory Northern Territory working with children check (Ochre Card) and national criminal history check
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and experience in trauma-informed counselling
  • Proven experience of working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Current NT Driver’s License.
